Missie

In de afstudeerrichting Fotografie binnen Beeldende Kunsten staat de ontwikkeling van een eigen stijl en visie bij elke student centraal. We zien fotografie als een weergave van een bestaande of fictieve realiteit, een belangrijke taal voor de expressie van gevoelens en ethiek. De afstudeerrichting geeft de student de mogelijkheid te experimenteren binnen de verschillende genres (mode, reclame, architectuur, stilleven, landschap, portret, reportage, documentaire...) om zo zijn eigen beeldstrategie en werkmethodiek te ontwikkelen.

De studenten worden individueel begeleid, gestimuleerd en gemotiveerd om het medium uitgebreid te onderzoeken. Dit onderzoek stelt hen in staat een uniek auteurschap te ontwikkelen binnen het terrein van de fotografie. De raakpunten en verschillen met andere media zoals beeldende, audiovisuele en digitale kunsten komen aan bod: enerzijds als artistieke realisatie en anderzijds als toepassing in opdracht voor het werkveld.

Deze afdeling leidt studenten op tot zelfstandige, artistieke en innoverende fotografen of beeldenmakers die zowel kennis als kritisch inzicht in het theoretische of intellectueel/kritische discours verder wensen uit te diepen. De student is bij het beëindigen van zijn opleiding in staat zelfstandig en in teamverband producten, onderzoek of diensten te leveren in de sector van de visuele en audiovisuele media, op niveau van de beginnende beroepsbeoefenaar.

In the Visual Arts Photography major the development of each student’s individual style and vision stands central. We see photography as a reflection of an existing or fictional reality, an important language for the expression of feelings and ethics.

The student gets the opportunity do develop his own visual strategy within different genres (fashion, advertising, architecture, still life, landscape, portrait, reportage, documentary, etc.) and working methods.

The students are individually supervised, stimulated and motivated to explore the medium extensively. This study enables them to develop a unique authorship within the realm of photography. Common ground with and differences from other media such as plastic, audio-visual and digital arts are examined: on the one hand as an artistic accomplishment and on the other hand as an application for the cultural field.

This department teaches students to become independent, artistic and innovative photographers or sculptors with a desire to further explore their knowledge and critical insight into the scientific/theoretical or intellectual/critical discourse. By the end of the course the student is able to provide products, research or services in the sector of visual and audio-visual media at a young graduate level, both independently and as part of a team.
