Stijn Maes is curator and producer of contemporary art, with a Master in Philosophy (University of Leuven; University of Paris X) and a Degree in Cultural Management (University of Antwerp). The past ten years he gained experience as studio manager of several visual artists, and was involved in many curatorial group and solo projects such as Newtopia (Mechelen; curator: Katerina Gregos) and CAB (Brussels). For several years now he is a member of the advisory board for multidisciplinary organizations (Flemish Community) and member of the board of directors of both the video biennial Contour (Mechelen) and the artists’ publication Gagarin (Antwerp). In 2010 he founded O.C.A.M., a non-profit arts platform that offers productional and administrational support to artists with a hybrid visual practice. Recent collaborations include publications, videos and installations by Sven ‘t Jolle, Karl Philips, Sarah Westphal, Adrien Tirtiaux, and Sarah & Charles – among others. He is interested in developing alternative systems of artistic production and presentation, e.g. in collaboration with private partners. As a curator, his expertise is both in exploring contemporary evolutions and challenges, as well as keeping track of more established but less known Belgian artists.
